The evolution of management studies as a discipline started almost two centuries back. Earlier, people practiced management activities, but without realizing its virtual presence. It is only in the 17th century that people were introduced to the world of management theories, principles and systems. Eminent like Frederick Taylor, Adam Smith, James Watt, Henry Towne and many other spent their lives in defining the theories of business. Needless to say, their contribution brought a change in the outlook of the business people and institutions. These developments saw the beginning of new phase of global business environment, which was more dynamic and diversified in nature and showed a scope of tremendous growth. Further, the evolution of management principles also brought a significant level of sustainability in the business markets.
The evolution of management studies left a significant impact on the global education system. Owing to which, a large number of management colleges were founded and the development is still going on. Indian education, also, did not remain unaffected. The involvement of management education is reflected in the growing demand of management courses in India.
